Medical Marijuana Answers

People have questions about who can use medical marijuana and how.

ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY – Wednesday the State Senate passed a bill that would legalize medical marijuana. It’s now heading the floor of the State House, where Representatives are expected to look at it before the end of the summer session.

But it’s raising questions about who would be allowed to use and how it could affect their jobs.

If the new bill becomes law people with chronic pain, glaucoma, and terminal cancers will qualify for medical marijuana. And they’ll have to get a special prescription from their doctor.

Michael Wagner practices employment and labor law in Altoona. He says Pennsylvania companies will still be allowed to drug test. And they would still confront anyone who tested positive. Then that person would have to prove the have a valid prescription for the drug.

He says employers would have the ability to say how and when a patient would use medical marijuana if the drug would affect an essential part of their job. Then there would have to be some kind of agreement between the patient and their boss.
