Butte County detectives bust marijuana refining labs in Concow, Magalia

Two Magalia residents were arrested by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday after authorities allegedly discovered marijuana refining labs at properties in Concow and Magalia.


Rocio I. Buenrostro, 26, and Benjamin L. Pavan, 28, were taken into custody and are facing various marijuana-related charges, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.


As part of an ongoing investigation that started after a raid on Feb. 27 in Feather Falls, authorities served search warrants at residences on High Winds Road in Concow and in the 14700 block of Skyway in Magalia, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

On Thursday, detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Unit and with the Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force served the search warrant at the Concow property and allegedly located a butane honey oil marijuana refining lab, which included five extraction tubes, hot plates, vacuum pumps and vacuum chambers, and more than 200 empty butane cans and more than 80 full butane cans, the press release stated.


At the High Winds Road location, detectives also allegedly found two greenhouses with 162 marijuana plants and a motorcycle reportedly stolen out of Ventura County, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The plants were reportedly destroyed. The motorcycle was taken to the Sheriff’s Office to be returned to its owner.


After the raids, detectives arrested Pavan on suspicion of marijuana cultivation, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of concentrated cannabis, two counts of manufacturing a controlled substance, being armed in the commission of a felony, and maintaining a home where the manufacturing of honey oil and cultivation of marijuana was occurring, according to the press release.

Buenrostro was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of concentrated cannabis, and maintaining a home where the manufacturing of honey oil and cultivation of marijuana were occurring.


On Feb. 27, authorities had served a search warrant at a residence on the 2100 block of Lumpkin Road in Feather Falls and five individuals from Clear Lake and two from Mexico were arrested at the home, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release.


During that search, SEU detectives found a fairly large lab for refining marijuana to make honey oil. The lab consisted of eight extraction tubes, more than 400 empty butane cans, 960 full cans of butane and 2.61 pounds of finished butane honey oil.

Detectives also seized 16.35 pounds of marijuana buds, 234.44 pounds of leaf and bud mix, 3.39 pounds of marijuana bud on stems and $18,398 in cash. They also found 166 growing marijuana plants in an adjacent outbuilding and a stolen firearm in the residence, the press release stated.


The people arrested at the residence were identified as Clear Lake residents Saul Cervantes, 28, David Cardenas, 52, Silvia Cardenas, 54, Zoila Valdovions-Torres, and James Franz, 34, and Mexico residents Claudea Cervantes, 18, and Dalen Cervantes, 20.


The suspects were booked into the Butte County jail on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale, cultivation of marijuana, manufacturing a controlled substance and being armed in the commission of a felony.
