Cannabis cookies causes man to shoot wife – 911 call hears gunshot

Husband Richard Kirk admitted murdering his wife while high on cannabis cookies, Denver Police report.

A husband high on cannabis cookies and other hash edibles flipped and shot his wife while high, Denver Police believe, following a phone call to them moments before she was shot.

The woman was talking to a 911 operator explaining her fears when when she was shot by her husband who had retreated to a family safe while high, taken a gun and shot his wife with his own children within earshot.

Kristine Kirk told the emergency operator that her husband was hallucinating and was out of control during a phone call that lasted 15 minutes before it was ended with a piercing shotgun blast, the local Denver NBC affiliate reported.

Husband, Richard Kirk, who is now in custody, was scaring their children and talking about the end of the world, according to victim, Kristine, moments before she was shot dead, 9News, in Denver reported.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the victim, aged 44, dead from a shotgun wound in the head.

Husband Richard Kirk has already confessed to the crime, police said.

An investigation is underway into the exact state of mind of the defendant and the drugs he may have taken.

In addition, there is concern at the length of time it took for officers to arrive at the scene, which is the subject of another investigation.
