It’s been just a few weeks since Senator Nicholas Scutari introduced legislation that would legalize the sale and consumption of recreational marijuana for adults of a certain age in New Jersey, and it’s surprising that it took this long for the state’s beloved governor to publicly oppose it.
But he has, and he continues to echo his previous proclamation that the legalization of recreational marijuana “will not happen on my watch, ever.”
“I’m not going to do that on my watch,” Governor Christie told a crowd of about 500 people attending a town hall meeting at Winston Churchill Elementary School. “I’m just not. I don’t think it’s the right thing to do for our state.”
Senator Scutari claims his legislation is intended toward curbing the current black market and providing new tax revenue, which is something you’d think a governor with intelligence would support. But not old Mr.-”will not happen on my watch, ever”-Christie.
“It’s time to update our archaic drug laws and get real about the detrimental effects they are having on the lives of residents here in New Jersey,” Senator Scutari proclaimed.
Nah, those dopers are getting exactly what they deserve. Right, Christie?
“Let me be clear on this: I’m not, as long as I’m governor, going to permit the decriminalization or recreational use of marijuana,” Governor Christie declared. “If you want someone who will, you’re going to have to elect a different governor.”
There you have it, New Jerseyites! Your ruler has spoken! No hope for legal dope!
Remember, folks! Your vote can make a difference!
