A Manchester man who was caught in a Belfast hotel with six kilograms of herbal cannabis has been jailed for eight months.
Brett Ashley Wild (41), from Granville Street in the Stockport area of the city, admitted a charge of possessing a class B drug with intent to supply.
Belfast Crown Court heard Wild had been asked to travel from England to Northern Ireland last July at the request of a Chinese man who he had done building work for in the past.
Crown prosecutor Kate McKay said that on July 3 last year, Wild was arrested at a city centre hotel. He was searched and when the package he was carrying was opened, it contained six kgs of herbal cannabis worth between £60,000 and £120,000.
Wild told police he had come to Belfast at the behest of the man who had asked him to price a job. Defence barrister Sean O’Hare said his client didn’t know the contents of the package.
