Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) – Now that Minnesota’s medical marijuana bill has stopped moving forward this legislative session, one marijuana advocacy group is coming out strong about their message that goes farther than the initial bill’s intent.
The state branch of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws took that message to the Teatro Zuccone in downtown Duluth Sunday.
Spokespeople say House Bill 1818 was supported by the organization as a compromise bill that brought the state closer to the ultimate goal of full legalization of cannabis for responsible adult use.
While NORML advocates for the medical benefits of marijuana, they say legalizing weed would also stop the legal disparities that pot prohibition brings with it, “such as the prison industrial complex,” said MN NORML advocate Michael Baumgarten, “and… the racism included with marijuana prohibition and many other—multitudes—of different issues associated with marijuana prohibition.”
Meanwhile, Governor Dayton has not ruled out the possibility of a compromise on the medical marijuana bill this session, though it seems remote.
