THREE Egyptian nationals have been jointly charged and arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) for trafficking in seven balls of loose cannabis weighing 20.4 grammes and a fresh cannabis plant weighing 1.2 grammes.
DEC public relations officer Theresa Katongo said Solima Arafa Mohamed Aboubaka, 35, an Agro-Chem Technical Consultant, has been arrested and jointly charged with Hassan Fahmy Hassan Mohamed Aboudesouky, 40, a veterinary doctor, and Taha Ahmed Mohamed, 35, a technical project coordinator, for trafficking in cannabis.
Ms Katongo said in a statement that the trio was arrested at their residence in Lusaka’s Makeni area.
And more than 15 Zambians have been arrested countrywide in the last four days by the Commission for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in over 500kg of cannabis.
“Those arrested include Timothy Siamutwezuba, an 84- year-old man of Siamutwezuba village in Kalomo District, for trafficking in 75.2kg of loose cannabis and unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 4.1kg,” Ms Katongo said.
Others include Hilario Zulu, 45, a peasant farmer of Muchukilani village in Eastern Province, for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 350.5kg and Kenny Limunga Biemba, 39, a Businessman of Mulilo in Sesheke District, for trafficking in 48.6 kg of loose cannabis
“Also arrested and jointly charged are Bright Sinkala, 42, a bricklayer of house No. B11S Kamwama East in Mufulira, and Belina Mulesu, 30, a house wife of the same abode, for trafficking in 20kg of loose cannabis,” she said.
In Central Province, Ms Katongo said the Commission has arrested Rodwell Mashita Chisenga, 26, a peasant farmer of Mashita village in Serenje District, for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 34.1kg and Kennedy Mutale, 34, of Matilyo Compound in Kapiri Mposhi for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 5.1kg.
She said all suspects will appear in court soon.
