Buzzin: Bees, hemp and glow-in-the-dark roads all in Bez's political manifesto

Bees, hemp and glow-in-the-dark roads – they’re all in Bez’s first ever political manifesto.

The Reality Party has outlined its vision both for Salford and the country as a whole as it prepares to fight its first ever election campaign, to be launched tonight.

It already has more than 18,000 members, according to Bez, who plans to stand as a candidate against Nigel Farage if the UKIP leader runs in the general election.

Environmentalist Jackie Anderson will be running for the party – led by Happy Mondays freaky dancer Bez – in the Salford ward of Irlam, home to the Barton Moss fracking protests.

A detailed list of its ideas includes beehives in EVERY school, Danish-style phosporescent road markings in place of street lighting near Barton, hemp-growing on Salford’s Chat Moss and a complete stop to all developments by property giant Peel.

Many of the ideas are green-focused, including building more wind turbines, creating a ‘plastic bag free Irlam’ and turning the Moss into a national park.

But ironically for a party preparing trying to secure its first ever council member, it would also scrap elected councillors altogether – replacing them with paid employees to ‘take the system’ out of politics.

It would also nationalise transport, re-open Salford’s maternity unit and launch an ‘investigation’ into Greater Manchester Police, following claims that protesters at Barton Moss have been targeted by an excessive police presence.

Bez launched his political career last month after several high profile appearances at the fracking protest, announcing he wanted to ‘stir things up’ by standing for parliament in Salford and Eccles.

His movement has gone from strength to strength since then, he told the M.E.N.

The Madchester star, born Mark Berry, said it now has around 18,000 members, adding: “It grows every day – not only in Manchester. I’m getting support up and down the country.”

Three schools are already interested in taking up his bee-keeping idea, he said.

“I want to create a permaculture society,” he said.

“The idea is to teach kids to look after themselves and create their own food – and look after their own health.”

The Reality Party launches tonight at Wangies on Liverpool Road, Eccles, from 7.30pm.
