A Montgomery woman had marijuana in her system when she struck and killed a pedestrian in February in Aurora, police said today.

After receiving the results of a blood test, Cherise Wardlow was charged with aggravated driving under the influence involving a death and a count of misdemeanor DUI, authorities said.

Wardlow, 39, of the first block of Circle Drive East, was southbound on Broadway near Spring Streeet just before 4 a.m. on Feb. 2 when she struck a homeless man who was walking in the road, according to police. She told police she heard a loud thump and immediately stopped and discovered she had hit the pedestrian.

Donald L. Early, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene.

After the Kane County state’s attorney authorized charges, a warrant was issued for Wardlow’s arrest. She turned herself in Monday and was released after posting $7,500 cash bond, police said.
