Smell of cannabis led to lots of trouble

Police arrested a 25-year-old man in Blenheim after they smelled cannabis coming from his car during a routine vehicle stop.

Constable Andrew Holdaway, of Blenheim, said the labourer was arrested in Freswick St at 10.45pm on Monday.

Police smelled a strong cannabis odour and searched his car, Holdaway said. They found 15.7 grams of cannabis, enough to make 16 tinnies, he said.

He was charged with possession of cannabis for supply, possession of equipment to cultivate cannabis and possession of utensils to consume methamphetamine, namely a pipe.

The man was held in police custody to appear in the Blenheim District Court yesterday.

Police arrested two more people in Blenheim on Monday.

A 29-year-old man was arrested at a house in Maxwell Rd for a historic breach of protection order.

The man was arrested at 3.30pm and taken into custody to appear in court yesterday.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested at 9.10pm for burglary and breaking into a vehicle. The student was charged with the burglary of a Charles St house and stealing from a parked car on Beaver Rd on Monday night.

He was referred to Blenheim Youth Aid and is to appear in Blenheim Youth Court today.
