Birthday cards delivered to lawmakers in support of medical cannabis

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Anna Knecht has Dravet syndrome and suffers from seizures every day. Her doctors say medical cannabis, given in an oil form, may be the only thing left that can make the seizures stop.

Anna’s birthday wish was to deliver a card and a cupcake to every lawmaker at the Capitol, asking them to make medical cannabis legal.

“What I care about is getting Anna and kids like her this medicine, and that’s why we are here. We are here to educate, and we think that we have a compelling message,” explained Mark Knecht, Anna’s father.

But if that message is not heard, Anna and her mother will be moving to Colorado where the medicine is already legal.

“Our hope is that Pennsylvania can find a way to make this available, [...] and we are counting on Pennsylvania lawmakers to do the right thing. Be a hero,” said Anna’s mother, Deb.

Anna already has her red card to receive medical marijuana in Colorado. She and her mother could move by the end of the summer.
