Four separate drugs seizures have turned up large quantities of heroin and cannabis in different locations across Laois within the last seven days.
A garda spokesperson has confirmed to the Leinster Express that there were three “significant drug seizures” at the weekend, with two people charged so far for drug offences in separate investigations.
A house in Rathdowney was searched by gardaĆ on Friday, April 4, while Saturday saw searches conducted at premises in Kilminchy Estate in Portlaoise and Mountmellick. Heroin was recovered at one of the houses, while cannabis herb was found at the other two, and the spokesperson has revealed that there was over €15,000 of drugs seized at each location.
Three local men in their late 20s/early 30s were arrested and two have already been charged, with charges expected to be brought at a future date against the third man.
The weekend garda activity comes in the wake of a separate arrest in Portarlington last Wednesday, April 2.
As part of an operation targeting the illegal sale and supply of heroin in the Portarlington area, gardaĆ seized heroin valued at €8,000 and cannabis herb valued at €5,000, following the planned search of a premises in Kilnacourt Woods, Portarlington, at approximately 9.30am.
A woman aged 29 was arrested at scene and detained at Tullamore Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. She has since been released pending the preparation of a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions and will be charged at a later date.
