A SECURITY guard started selling cannabis to friends and acquaintances in order to feed his own drug addiction, a court has heard.
Christopher Doyle (23) slipped from a casual user of cannabis to a heavy user when he was unemployed.
Judge David McHugh fined Doyle, of Rowlagh Park, Clondalkin, €300 and imposed a six-month sentence suspended for a year.
The defendant had admitted possession of cannabis for sale or supply.
Gda Gavin Curran said he obtained a search warrant and searched Doyle’s home at around 6.30pm last July 6 and found cannabis herb with a street value of €530.
DRUNK URINATED ON A&E FLOOR
A DRUNK hurled abuse at hospital staff and gardai when they confronted him for urinating in the public area of the A&E department, a court heard.
Brendan Canning (25) had been taken to St James’s Hospital last January 22 for treatment after downing two ‘naggin’ bottles of vodka.
Canning, with an address at Esker Park, Lucan, pleaded guilty to public intoxication and urination and causing a breach of the peace. He was given a one-month suspended sentence at Dublin District Court.
The court heard he had convictions for public order offences and theft.
THIEF TOOK MAIL FROM POST BOX
A SERIAL thief caught stealing Christmas cards from an overflowing mail box claimed he was doing “a good deed” and was on his way to return them to the post office, a court has heard.
Albert Redmond (37) was walking from the scene and past the post office with the cards and letters in his hands when he was stopped by gardai, Dublin District Court heard.
Redmond, of Donore Terrace, South Brown Street, Pimlico, was under a suspended sentence for another offence.
Judge Ann Watkin adjourned the case to Kilkenny District Court on Monday, for consideration by the presiding judge of the suspended sentence.
