Time to submit your cannabis comments | Bainbridge Notebook

You’ll have another chance to weigh in about marijuana regulation on Bainbridge Island at the April 28 City Council study session at City Hall. At that meeting, the Council will discuss a proposed ordinance governing marijuana growing, processing and retail sale.


Although a majority of the members of the Planning Commission have recommended that marijuana farms and indoor grows be allowed in residential neighborhoods (with significant restrictions, including setbacks, screens and size of plant canopy), a minority of Planning Commission members have filed a dissenting report. That report asked the Council not to allow marijuana growing in residential zones.


Public comment at the April 28 meeting begins at 7 pm. A final public hearing is tentatively scheduled for May 12 at 7 pm. You can email written comments until 4 pm on April 23, to pcd@bainbridgewa.gov. Even if you miss that deadline, you can still submit comments until the final public hearing.

Updates on Marijuana Ordinance 2014-06: Regulations for Medical and Recreational Marijuana 


Bainbridge Island, Wash.,(April, 2014) – At the City Council Study Session on April 7, 2014, City Staff presented the Planning Commission’s recommendations on Ordinance 2014-06: Regulations for Medical and Recreational Marijuana. These recommendations came after the Planning Commission underwent numerous study sessions and a public hearing. The Planning Commission recommended the following to council: 


Collective Gardens: The Planning Commission recommended banning collective gardens Citywide. 


Marijuana Retail: The Planning Commission recommended allowing recreational marijuana retail where general retail is already allowed- the Mixed Use Town Center, High School Road, and Neighborhood Service Center zoning districts. The City will only be granted 1 marijuana retail business license by the Liquor Control Board. 


Marijuana Processing: The Planning Commission recommended allowing recreational marijuana processing in the Business/ Industrial district. 


Marijuana Production (Growing): The Planning Commission recommended allowing recreational marijuana production (outdoor or greenhouse growing only) in the R-0.4 zoning district subject to several conditions (see Ordinance 2014-06). 


 


On April 28th, 2014 at the City Council Study Session (meeting begins at 7pm) the public will have the opportunity to provide public comment on Ordinance 2014-06. If the public desires to have their written comment included in the packet for the Study Session, those comments must be submitted to Planning and Community Development by 4pm on April 23, 2014. Comments can be submitted by email to pcd@bainbridgewa.gov or mailed to City Hall, Planning and Community Development, 280 Madison Ave North, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110. It is important to note that if you miss the April 23rd deadline, public comment can still be submitted all the way until the final hearing on the Ordinance. A public hearing is also tentatively scheduled for May 12, 2014 at City Hall.
