TWO hydroponic growing set-ups in Lavington house to provide personal supply.
MATTHEW Stephen Twohig had two hydroponic cannabis growing set-ups in his Lavington house to provide a supply of the drug for his use.
Albury Local Court heard on Wednesday police received information that Twohig was growing cannabis and went to his Sunwood Drive home on April 30 this year.
Officers were given permission to enter and search the house after speaking to Twohig and his mother.
He admitted cultivating cannabis hydroponically and said he had two growing areas.
Twohig, 42, appeared for sentencing on charges of cultivating a prohibited plant, possessing a prohibited drug and two counts of possessing equipment for administering a prohibited drug.
Magistrate Tony Murray convicted Twohig on the cultivation charge and gave him an eight-month suspended jail sentence.
He was fined $150 on each of the other three charges.
Police inspected a growing arrangement in a spare room where there was a large black tent with three live and healthy cannabis plants.
There was a light and a water supply with the plants at an average height of 30 centimetres.
The second was in Twohig’s bedroom wardrobe where there were three small plants up five centimetres high.
They were under two red growing lights and police also found 11 cannabis plant stems or cuttings.
When interviewed by police, Twohig said he was growing the cannabis for his own use.
He said he liked to use cannabis to counteract his addiction to other more illicit substances.
Twohig admitted a long-term addiction to ice.
The six cannabis plants were seized by police.
Later the same day Twohig went to Nolan House at the Albury Hospital.
Staff found a black pouch in his underpants containing a small amount of cannabis leaf along with two glass pipes.
