Detectives found approximately 5 pounds of high grade marijuana, ½-pound of hashish, lidocaine and 18 marijuana plants in four interior growing stations.
MANSFIELD – Usually it’s a drug-sniffing dog getting the credit for tracking down illegal drugs. But in the case of a DeSoto Parish man arrested today for producing high-grade marijuana inside his home through an elaborate growing system, the kudos instead go to a sharp-nosed school resource officer.
It was the SRO, a DeSoto Parish sheriff’s deputy, who smelled suspected marijuana on the backpacks of two juveniles. He reported it to narcotics investigators, who joined the SRO Wednesday in a visit to the juveniles’ home in the 5000 block of Highway 191.
No one answered their knocks, so investigators returned early this morning for what they call a “knock and talk.” This time, Jon Ryan Temple, 32, of Mansfield, answered the door and let them in for a search.

“The odor of what the detectives believed to be marijuana was extremely strong throughout the residence,” according to a news release from DeSoto Parish Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle.
Detectives found approximately 5 pounds of high grade marijuana, ½-pound of hashish, lidocaine and 18 marijuana plants in four interior growing stations complete with UV lighting, heat lamps, ventilation system and a watering system with rain water collection.
