Oregon DA mocks Colorado's cotton candy cannabis: Oregon politics today

Not long after Oregon’s most vociferous district attorney shared his distaste for the legalization of marijuana, Colorado’s new ‘edibles’ rules were revealed.

Clatsop County’s DA Josh Marquis told The Oregonian this week about his recent trip to Colorado, noting that its pot (he didn’t smoke any) was scarcely the low-octane herb he inhaled at the University of Oregon as “Stairway to Heaven” hit the charts.

We asked Marquis if the Colorado law was working as well as folks had hoped.

“According to my friend, the Denver district attorney, no, it’s not,” he said. “Marijuana’s becoming much more accessible to kids. There’s a wild increase in DUII-related marijuana incidents. And there are incidents that never would have happened 20 years ago, where people are actually having almost psychotic breaks from taking massive overdoses.”

Marquis noted New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd’s very bad experience with the Rocky Mountains high, which she chronicled in a column titled, “Don’t Harsh Our Mellow, Dude.” And he flailed the Centennial State’s  pot-infused cotton candy.

More Oregon politics news: Healthcare writer Nick Budnick scored a scoop this week: As feds probe Cover Oregon, state has approved criminal defense costs for five former employees.
