PUEBLO, Colo. — Tommy Chong, half of the famous 1970s comedy duo Cheech & Chong, has endorsed a marijuana dispensary in Pueblo.
Chong, 75, struck up a deal with Marisol Therapeutics in Pueblo, allowing the use of his name and fame as an endorsement for the pot shop and its products, according to the Denver Post.
Not shy about his long-time, regular use of marijuana, Chong told the newspaper he wants to promote the medicinal perks of weed after testing cancer-free, a result he attributes to cannabis oils and improved diet.
Mike Stetler, the owner of Marisol, plans to create a special strain of pot to make products from and sell them under a “Tommy Chong” brand, said Chong.
These products will contain high levels of cannabidiol, he added.
Chong made appearances at the Pueblo dispensary both in January after the legalization of retail pot and the evening before 4/20 festivities began in Colorado.
Marisol’s attorney, Sean McAllister, told the Denver Post the deal is not about revenue, but simply about Chong giving his stamp of approval to a product he strongly believes in.
“There’s no money changing hands from Tommy to Marisol, so there’s no investment,” McAllister said. “Ultimately, it comes down to Tommy Chong endorsing (Marisol’s) product.”
Chong said he’ll be spending a lot of time at Marisol and intends to sample the products as he is a “hands-on guy.”
