Deputies say a kindergarten student at Keystone Heights Elementary School was found to be in possession of marijuana Wednesday.
A deputy that was working as a school resource officer for Keystone Heights High School was called to the elementary school after a teacher alerted the principal that the student was bragging about bringing his mother’s cigarettes to school.
When the principal checked the student’s bag she found a small plastic bag that was handed over to the officer and later tested positive for marijuana, deputies said.
The teacher told the officer the mother of the child was at the school the same day for a kindergarten show. The deputy found the mother and questioned her about the marijuana but the officer said she denied that it was hers and said she didn’t know where her son got it.
Deputies said an investigator with the Department of Children and Families will be investigating the incident.
