It is a terrible tragedy when people can get fired for doing something that is legal. That is what happened to Mike Boyer, who was the first person—after waiting 20 hours in line—to buy 4 grams of marijuana in Spokane, Washington. He proudly showed off his purchase to television news crews as he stepped away from the counter.
Well, his employer happened to see him on the news, and had him take a urine test the day after. The test came back positive for THC, and he was fired.
The New York Daily News reported that Boyer had taken the day off work to go wait in line to buy his first batch of legal marijuana, and that he returned home thereafter to enjoy his purchase.
Mike shouldn’t be too worried about losing his job as a security officer. Other employers are surely going to try and snap him up, after all, the 30-year-old security officer—who wouldn’t want someone with such dedication and passion?
Mike has been quoted saying…
“I don’t regret it. I’m sad it happened but I got the title: I’m No. 1. I regret nothing.”
Mike has said that he is hoping to get a job in the newly legalized marijuana industry, which is a great idea, since he’ll be able to get an employee discount on his purchases, and may even be able to negotiate to get paid in weed instead of cash.
Good for you Mike, you knew what you wanted and didn’t let something like a job and responsibilities to stand in your way, and showed everyone that just because you are a marijuana user, it doesn’t mean that you have no ambition or mental capacity to process the consequences of your actions.
