Residents Calling For More Information

Lakeshore resident Robert Soulliere is satisfied council is taking more time to look at its proposed bylaw regulating hemp and medical marijuana production.

He thinks the proposal regulates hemp growing too tightly and medical marijuana production too loosely.

“Hemp production and hemp use is absolutely benign. It’s no different than growing corn,” says Soulliere. “The problems we have with medical marijuana is it has the THC content. It’s what the criminals want, you know, there’s crime that we have to worry about obviously.”

Residents at Tuesday’s council meeting were upset the proposed bylaw would allow medical marijuana facilities on agricultural lands with many in Lakeshore having homes on lands zoned agricultural.

Council deferred a decision on the proposed bylaw until a report back with more information on concerns brought up by residents.
