WHEN police searched the home of a 24-year-old Omagh man who had been making a ‘nuisance’ of himself in public, they discovered drugs and a shotgun cartridge.
As a result, Kieran Maguire of Glendore Park appeared before the Magistrates Court on charges of disorderly behaviour, possession of cannabis and a shotgun cartridge without being the holder of a firearm certificate.
He admitted the offences and was fined a total of £500.
The court was told police became aware that Maguire was intoxicated and being a “nuisance” on John Street in the early hours of November 24 last year.
He was advised to go home but was in the area an hour later and gave officers false details. He was then arrested and a search of his home uncovered the Class B drug and the cartridge. Solicitor Michael Fahy acknowledged the defendant was given ample warning to leave the area and got involved in disorderly behaviour of his own volition.
He suggested it may be a “turning point’ for Maguire as he has not come to any adverse police attention since the items were found eight months ago.
He also stated the cannabis was found in a tin and was an “extremely small” amount of the drug.
