EVANSTON, Ill. (WLS) –
Steven Hamann, 26, was arrested during a traffic stop after Evanston police allegedly found him carrying a handgun, face mask, body armor and a small amount of cannabis, police said.
Police said an officer conducted a traffic stop around 6:20 p.m. Thursday in the 2400-block of Church Street, and while interacting with Hamann, established probable cause to search his vehicle. During the search, police allegedly found the .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun and ballistic body armor.
Hamann was taken into custody and charged with five felony counts of unlawful use of a weapon and possession of ballistic armor, as well as misdemeanor firearm ammunition and cannabis charges, police said.
He is scheduled to appear in court next on Aug. 8.
