A LARGE cannabis farm of more than 100 plants was discovered by police at a house in Chester following a tip-off from a member of the public.
Officers carried out a search of the semi-detached property on Sealand Road and discovered a “substantial cannabis cultivation set-up” at 9am yesterday.
They say the drugs haul is so large that it should have an impact on the supply of cannabis into the city.
The plants, which were seized under the Misuse of Drugs Act, are now being examined by forensic experts.
Police say enquiries are ongoing to trace the people responsible for the farm.
Sgt Andy Burrage, of Chester Inner Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: “This warrant is part of our ongoing commitment to tackle illicit drugs use in the city centre.
“In this case we have removed a large number of cannabis plants from the address which will go some way to disrupting the supply of this illegal drug in our city.”
News of the discovery comes just a day after 340 officers mounted Cheshire Constabulary’s largest ever series of pre-planned drugs raids at 40 properties in Cheshire and Merseyside.
Targeting dealers of class A drugs and those involved in organised crime, Operation ImpACT was hailed a huge success by police chiefs with 31 people charged for drug offences.
The majority of intelligence behind the operation came from members of the public, who police say are instrumental in helping them bring drug dealers to justice.
Mr Burrage added: “We rely heavily on community intelligence and members of the public giving us information about their concerns or suspicions.
