A LLANDEILO farmer has appeared in court charged with growing cannabis plants with a potential value of up to £38,500.

Garry Lewis, from Banc y Berllan in Rhosmaen, pleaded guilty to cannabis possession but entered no plea to a charge of cannabis production at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court.

Lewis admitted he possessed 843g of cannabis which had been harvested and stored in his farmhouse.

Ellie Morgan for the prosecution said: “The 843g is cannabis that he has produced. The police conducted a search of this address. At the beginning of the search there were five bags of cannabis that had been harvested and a shoebox that’s been used to store it.”

Police later found 39 pots with cuttings in them that were several days old.

A further 30 pots were found containing plants that were close to harvestable.

Mrs Morgan said: “The police have analysed the yield of these plants, the potential yield of the next crop and the 843g.”

A police statement estimated that the potential value of the cannabis found in the house was between £20,500 and £38,500.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction of the case and sent it to the crown court. Lewis was released on unconditional bail and ordered to appear at Swansea Crown Court on Friday.
