Underage driver arrested for marijuana possession: North Royalton Police Blotter

Marijuana possession, Sprague Road: At 1:17 a.m. Oct. 24, a Kia without a front license plate was stopped behind a police car on Sprague Road. The officer pulled over the driver, 19, who smelled of cigarettes.

The officer also noticed two bottles of cologne and the driver acting lethargic. The man said he had just bought the car and the front license plate was in the backseat.

When he reached to get it, the officer smelled marijuana. The officer then saw a baggie in the driver’s side door that had tiny pieces of green residue.

Upon searching the car, police found a grinder, pipes, a bottle filled with marijuana and three lighters. Also, police found nine bottles of beer and a partially filled bottle of rum in the trunk.

The man was arrested for underage consumption, possession of drug paraphernalia, marijuana possession and driving without a front license plate.

Drunken driving, Sprague Road: A swerving Cadillac caught the attention of police at 12:42 a.m. Oct. 21 on Sprague Road. An officer followed the speeding car into Parma.

The driver, still swerving, made a few turns before driving back into North Royalton and then being pulled over on York Road. While talking to the driver, who smelled of alcohol, the officer asked him where he was coming from. The man said the Bar House.

He meant the Fire House. When asked how much he had to drink, the man said very little. After failing a field sobriety test, the man was arrested for drunken driving.

That’s when he asked the officer if he could leave his car there and just walk home. The man was also cited for driving outside of marked lanes and not using his turn signal.

Go Blue, State Road: Police were called at 12:59 a.m. Oct. 18 to the BP Gas Station on State Road regarding the reckless operation of a car. A concerned citizen watched a Chevrolet Impala with Michigan license plates ride up onto the sidewalk nearly hitting a car.

The citizen then followed the Impala to the gas station where he blocked the car into a parking space with his own vehicle. When the officer approached the driver of the Impala about his erratic driving, the man said, “Well, I just took an Ambien.”

The officer also noted he smelled of alcohol, even though the man denied drinking. Soon the driver admitted to drinking a six pack. After failing a field sobriety test, the man was arrested for drunken driving.

He was also cited for driving on sidewalks.

Attempted burglary, Royalton Road: Police were called at 2:50 a.m. Oct. 25 to Park Tavern after a report of an attempted burglary. The bartender said a customer became belligerent after he spilled his beer.

He started calling her names. He was kicked out of the bar for good. The North Royalton man, 28, came back to the bar, punched in a window and was going to fight another customer.

That’s when the shirtless man ran off to Spruce Run Apartments. Also, the man had an unpaid tab of $25 at the bar. His credit card had been declined. Police were unable to find the man.

Later the bartender filed a formal complaint against the man but said he wasn’t attempting burglary.

Criminal damage, Oakhill Road: Two residents came to the police station at 12:11 p.m. Oct. 25 to report their car had been damaged two days earlier. A 2012 Kia had key marks on the hood and trunk, while a 2008 Hyundai was also keyed on the trunk. Police are investigating.

Trespassing, Pine Forest: A woman called police on Oct. 22 regarding an ex-boyfriend who had snuck into her apartment complex and was banging on her door saying how much he loved her.

The man left a bag of food and an explicit note before leaving when police arrived. The police eventually found the man in a wooded area near the apartment. He was sleeping against a tree.

The man admitted to knocking on the door. He told the officers he was homeless. The man was arrested for trespassing.

Drug abuse, Sprague Road: Police took part in an Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force search warrant execution at 7:30 a.m. Oct. 16 on Sprague Road. While the officers didn’t find any child pornography, they did discover a minor marijuana growing operation.

The homeowner wasn’t home. Police called him about what they had discovered. He later came to the police station where he was cited for illegal growing of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and drug abuse.

Because a child lived in the home, the man was also charged with child endangering.
