The Buzz: Is the medical marijuana amendment flaming out?

I don’t know what’s wrong with Floridians some times.

Actually, I feel that way a lot of times, but that’s another story.

The issue of medical marijuana – amendment 2 on your ballot – was a slam dunk not long ago.

Public approval was at 75 percent or higher.

People understood how suffering could be alleviated to some degree by medical marijuana.

People understood that recreational marijuana is actually legal in Colorado and Washington.  Marijuana for medicinal reasons only in Florida should have been a cinch.

It’s not.

It will need 60 percent of the vote on Tuesday, and right now most polls have it right about at 60. One poll declared medical marijuana “done.”

Last week, a poll conducted by the Tampa Bay Times said Amendment 2 will fall short.

Why?

There has been a lot of advertising against the amendment lately, and that stuff works.

And the right wingers who think marijuana is sinful are apparently getting their story out.

Ridiculous.

We have a chance here to help the sick people in Florida who could get actual relief from some pain and suffering.

This is not going to turn the state into a bunch of raving lunactic potheads. If we aren’t already there, the amendment isn’t going to do it.

But enough people apparently believe that passing Amendment 2 will turn us into a state full of druggies. We’re talking “Reefer Madness” here.

I see no reason to vote against this. None.

If it helps relieve pain for people, why not?

But too many people are apparently searching for a reason not to vote for it.
