Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) — Duluth City councilors are considering an ordinance that would block any future marijuana manufacturing and distribution within city limits for at least six months.

Earlier this month, the Minnesota Department of Health received a dozen applications from companies interested in building medical cannabis facilities in the state.

The city has been approached by businesses interested in locating in Duluth.

The proposed ordinance allows the council to review city zoning regulations to see whether such a facility would be allowed.

“It just makes sense that we take the time to make sure we can do that before folks come in and plop in and start trying to fit it into existing zoning categories,” said Dave Montgomery, Chief Administrative Officer for the city.

Meanwhile, the city of Proctor has shown interest in being a location for a medical cannabis distribution facility.
