New app aimed at delivering medical marijuana to users' homes

STATE WIDE (WGME) — There’s a new smart phone app aimed at medical marijuana users and it brings the pot right to their front door.

This app is designed to get medical marijuana to patients quicker. It’ll only be used in California, at first, but Maine and California’s medical marijuana laws are similar and the app’s creators hope they can expand it to other states that use medical marijuana dispensaries.

“We’re entrepreneurs and we saw a need in the market and we decided to fill that need.” Roddy Rodnia, Nestdrop co-founder, said.

Roddy Rodnia, 25, and Michael Pycher, 30, are about to shake up the medical marijuana market. As they get set to launch a new app allowing you to buy marijuana with your fingertips.

“We want to make it more convenient for the people who are dealing with certain type of ailments and not having to make that awkward trip out to the store.” Rodnia said.

“We’re the first app to do this.” Michael Pycher, Nestdrop co-founder, said.

The app, called Nestdrop is like an Uber for marijuana. They partner with dispensaries who will then deliver throughout the area in under an hour.

There’s no way to skirt around the law here. You have to do everything the way you normally would, we’re just giving you a new platform to do it. So you have to have your state-issued photo id, your medical marijuana card, and your doctor’s recommendation.” Pycher said.

You’ll also have to show your ID upon delivery. Paizley Bradbury with the Compassion Union Dispensary, not affiliated with the app, says she welcomes it.

“The people who still want the delivery service is very small compared to the people who want to come and see it themselves. So I don’t think it’s going to be a competitive thing.” Bradbury said.

The app is expected to launch within the next couple of weeks, though at least one legal analyst says we will have to wait and see how regulations play out. New app aimed at delivering medical marijuana to users’ homes
