Should most marijuana edibles be banned? The state Health Department says yes because they think it violates the laws banning the marketing of of pot to kids.
Right now many dispensaries sell the edibles in the form of cookies, brownies and candy.
State officials want to limit that to lozenges and tinctures.
We talked to the owner of Rocky Mountain Miracles and she says the recommendation is ridiculous.
” I think that’s pretty ridiculous,” said Ali Hillery.
Hillery believes it is the parents who should be monitoring what their children are doing and eating.
She tells 11 News there are some clients who can only have edibles and should continues to have that option.
We also talked to a doctor at Memorial Hospital to find out what kinds of reactions children might have if they eat a marijuana edible.
” They can start off possibly not acting right, being confused. They can begin vomiting all the way up to respiratory distress,” Said Dr. George Hertner.
The conversation and or debate will likely continue until a decision or conclusion has been reached.
For now, limiting marijuana edibles is simply a proposal, there’s no timeline for a decision.
A final decision will be made by the Department of Revenue’s Marijuana Enforcement division, which overseas retail marijuana sales.
