Minnesota Vikings suspended running back Adrian Peterson’s admission that he smoked “a little weed” has prompted Texas prosecutors to ask a judge to revoke his $15,000 bail on a felony child abuse charge, according to a court clerk and a report from a Houston television station.
FOX26 in Houston posted a photo of the two-page motion filed by Montgomery County prosecutor Brett Ligon.
According to the document, Peterson underwent a urinalysis on Wednesday after his court appearance in front of Judge Kelly Case in Conroe, Montgomery County. He told the person conducting the test that he had smoked weed.
The motion to revoke his bond noted that weed is a common term for marijuana and that the court has the power to rearrest a defendant and set a new bond amount.
The prosecutor’s motion was filed just after lunch Thursday. Neither the district attorney’s office nor Peterson’s defense lawyer Rusty Hardin returned phone calls early Thursday afternoon.
On Wednesday, Peterson’s lawyer asked for the speediest trial possible and a Dec. 1 date was discussed. But first the court will hear a request from prosecutors to remove Case from hearing the case. That hearing was set for Friday.
Peterson has not played since his indictment became public on Sept. 12. He is now on the NFL Commissioner’s exempt list, at home near Houston earning his $11 million salary.
