Residents welcome police operation as officers remove cannabis haul from home in Grimsby's ...

CRACKDOWN: Drugs officers seize equipment and cannabis after raid on a home in Duke Street, Grimsby.

HUMBERSIDE Police have continued with their “get tough” strategy on drug activity with the removal of another haul of cannabis in a residential street.

Just days after up to 600 plants were seized at a former photographic studio in Cleethorpe Road, drugs officers swooped on a home in nearby Duke Street, Grimsby.

One woman was arrested following the raid at around 11am on Saturday, as reported at www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk

A quantity of cannabis was seized in the drugs raid on the terraced home.

Drugs officers had to contend with a couple of Staffordshire terrier-type dogs and five puppies as they searched the premises and found a cannabis factory in the upper floor of the home.

A Humberside Police spokesman said a woman had been arrested and will be questioned about the cultivation of cannabis.

Several sacks full of cannabis plants were removed by Humberside Police.

A North East Lincolnshire Council Community Pride team assisted with the disposal of plant pots, bags of fertilizer and an elaborate system of lighting and ventilation.

All the materials were removed from the scene. Residents welcomed the police operation. One young mum, who did not wish to be named, said she was glad to see police in the street.

“It is disgusting that people have drugs in the street where our young children could easily find them,” she said.

“You see the needles left down the alleyways. I am glad to see the police.”

Another neighbour, who asked not to be identified, said they welcomed the operation.

“This area needs cleaning up. It is about time the police acted.

“You daren’t walk in the street after dark. It is nice to know the police are out and about and keeping an eye on us.”

Another resident said: “Most people keep themselves to themselves round here.”
