A rural Portage man faces marijuana charges after investigators said they found a large amount of firearms, marijuana and cash in a search of his home.
Scott A. Burdick, 47, is free on a $2,000 signature bond after an appearance Oct. 15 in Columbia County Circuit Court.
Burdick was arrested following an undercover investigation, said Detective Sgt. Michael Haverley.
“He was found to be a substantial dealer for this area,” Haverley said.
Investigators searched Burdick’s home on Highway 51 in the town of Pacific to find a loaded pistol and 24 individual bags of marijuana weighing 4.7 or 4.8 grams each, according to a criminal complaint.
“Over a quarter pound of marijuana was actually seized,” said Haverley, who described Burdick as a “midlevel dealer.”
Also on the search, which took place Sept. 29, investigators found $35,000 cash and other firearms in addition to the loaded pistol.
Investigators “quite often” find firearms along with the illegal drugs, Haverley said.
“He had a large quantity of both pistols and rifles,” some of which were kept with the marijuana, Haverley said.
Burdick told investigators that he began selling marijuana about two years ago, and that he buys a quarter pound every couple of weeks, then sells eighth- or quarter-ounce bags to about 10 people, according to the complaint.
Burdick is charged with felony possession with intent to deliver THC (marijuana), felony maintaining a drug trafficking place and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
The felony charges carry a combined maximum initial penalty of three years in prison.
The case is scheduled for a pretrial conference Nov. 12 and a court hearing Dec. 2.
