2 get 6 months’ jail for farming hemp
A mobile court in Rajshahi on Monday sentenced two people to six months’ imprisonment each for cultivating hemp in Bagmara upazila in the district. The convicts were identified as Munsur Rahman, 35, a resident of Katila village in Bagmara upazila, and his associate Amzad Hossain, 38, of Kismathoza Jogipara village in Durgapur upazila. Sources at Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-5 said tipped off, a team of Bagmara camp Rab-5 conducted a drive at Katila village and arrested the duo along with five hemp plants near the house of Munsur in the afternoon. They were later produced before the court of Executive Magistrate Sadekul Islam who handed down the verdict, according to UNB.
