  • Government says it has no intentions of legalizing the consumption and use of illicit drugs such, as marijuana.

This follows intensified calls by Chibolya compound residents for Government to legalize marijuana so that it contributes to the country’s Gross Domestic Product  GDP.

Minister of Home Affairs, Ngosa Simbyakula maintains that government remains determined not to legalise marijuana saying it will encourage drug abuse in the country.

And Drug Enforcement Commission –DEC- Commissioner Alita Mbahwe says attempts to legalize so-called recreational drugs are not only highly questionable from the legislative standpoint, but fail to produce the desired effects. The duo was speaking at the commemoration of the world in commemorating this year’s World Anti-Drug Day under the theme: “Drug use disorders are preventable and treatable.”
