Cannabis factory man told to pay up £37k or face more jail time

Two men have been ordered to pay back some of their ill-gotten gains after a million pound drugs bust.

A “sophisticated” 13-room cannabis warehouse in Shepperton – where up to 4,500 plants were being cultivated – was uncovered by police officers on routine patrol in May last year.

Jamie Lee, 37, of Waverley Road in Weybridge, was jailed for four years last September for production of cannabis, while James Scantlebury-Grant, 28, from The Heart, Walton, was previously given a 12-month sentence.

A proceeds of crime hearing was held at Guildford Crown Court last Thursday (June 26).

Lee was said to have benefited from the illegal activities by £579,921.00 and had assets of £36,972.65.

He was ordered by Recorder Jeremy Carter-Manning to repay the £36,972.65 in six months or face a further 15 months’ imprisonment.

Scantlebury-Grant benefited to the tune of £514,169.24 but was said to have no assets. He will only have to repay £50 or face a week in jail.

The court previously heard that the cannabis factory had a “sophisticated ventilation system” and CCTV.

The benefits of crime included a combination of the total value of the drugs as well as the electricity supply, estimated at £359 per day, that was being “stolen”.
