On 7/16/2014 the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Investigative Team began a two day marijuana operation in the Big Bend area. Assisting agencies for the operation were Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, United States Forest Service, and C.A.M.P (Campaign Against Marijuana Planting). On day one of the operation officers located and seized 16,756 plants from a large marijuana complex on public land. During the initial entry officers came into contact with the above listed subject, Patricio Perez Madrigal, who was later determined to be an illegal Mexican National. Madrigal attempted to flee from officers and after ignoring multiple verbal commands from law enforcement, Fish and Game K-9 “Phebe” was deployed. Madrigal was apprehended a short distance later. On 7/17/2014 officers and Agents returned to the area to complete the investigation and located and seized an additional 18,637 plants. A total of 35,393 marijuana plants were eradicated along with multiple pounds of processed marijuana during this two day investigation.
