THE above photo shows the results of a day when the special constables in Bideford stepped up and took the lead.
Special constables Ross Prior and Laura Watson are pictured with cannabis seized after “completing a successful warrant under the misuse of drugs act” a spokesman for police in Bideford said.
They added: “A large quantity of cannabis was seized.
“One male is currently on bail while enquiries continue.”
The special constables conducted a “take over day”, joining the response team officers and neighbourhood team officers yesterday and taking the lead in several incidents.
They also helped search areas for a “suspicious male”.
At one point they were called to a man who “had decided to walk into the river”, working to ensure his safety.
They also went to two domestic incidents, one where there was a concern for someone’s welfare and a “targeted patrol” of an area where there had been recent damage to vehicles.
The spokesman added: “This weekend will be a busy one for Torridge based Special Constables.
“Special constables take the lead while being mentored by their regular colleagues.
“These take-over days are a valuable source of on the job learning for special constables.
“These specials give up their free time for no pay and are a very valuable addition to the policing of Torridge.”
Today a number of special constables travelled to Devon and Cornwall Police HQ in Exeter to represent the Torridge sector and go to the swearing in of the latest special constables to finish their training.
One of the new special constables will be stationed at Bideford.
