NATALIE Daley never imagined she’d take cannabis.
But the Ulverstone mother-of-three wants to make the most of the time she has.
Mrs Daley was diagnosed with adrenalcortical carcinoma _ a rare, aggressive and likely terminal cancer _ in July last year.
She said that when she first started chemotherapy treatment, she could not lift herself off the couch.
“I couldn’t move, I couldn’t do anything, I was vomiting all the time, feeling nauseous and weak, I cried,” Mrs Daley said.
“I felt like a failure as a wife and a mum.”
Two weeks into her treatment, a friend of a friend put her on to medicinal cannabis.
“I felt like a criminal pretty much, because it’s illegal, and I was petrified of the police turning up on my doorstep,” Mrs Daley said.
“I’ve got three little kids and its a really big risk to take .th.th. but I’ve pretty much got to do everything I can to stay here to be around for them and my husband.”
Mrs Daley now takes cannabis oil once in the morning and evening, and tincture (a herbal extract) in cups of tea during the day.
Her life, she says, has dramatically improved.
“I saw the effect pretty much straight away, within the hour,” Mrs Daley said.
“I’m eating, I’ve got a huge appetite, I’m back up doing my favourite things, my husband’s coming home to cooked meals and a clean house again.
“I can spend time with my kids as well.”
Mrs Daley will today launch a petition to legalise medicinal cannabis in Tasmania, which she plans to present to the state government.
“It’s just so upsetting, the fact that this cannabis is illegal, when it could help so many people with cancers and other illnesses,” she said.
She said she would distribute the petition around North-West shops, and it would be available online when some technical glitches were sorted.
