POLICE say they have sent a strong anti-drugs message to criminals and to the public after raiding a home in Grimsby’s West Marsh area.
A squad of officers and special constables from the Cromwell Road Neighbourhood Policing Team swooped on a home in Bridge Gardens at about 4pm yesterday.
A small factory of 13 cannabis plants was found, and police said a man will be questioned at a later date, but no arrests were made.
A second address in the West Marsh was raided by the same officers shortly afterwards, also following information received, but no drugs were found.
Each was carried out under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
The value of the 13 plants found at the Bridge Gardens address, off New Haven Terrace, is not yet known.
PC Leighton Kaye, leading the operation, said the police had acted on intelligence from the community in carrying out the operation.
He also stressed the force’s “zero-tolerance approach” to drugs. “A male was detained and a search warrant was executed at the address in Bridge Gardens following police enquiries,” he said.
“This sends a message out and lets people know exactly what we’re doing.
“We want people to know that we will act on information that is received and this shows our zero- tolerance approach to drugs.”
PC Kaye, based at Grimsby’s Cromwell Road station, urged anyone with information about drugs to contact police immediately so they can take action.
“We acted on information received from the community and a small cannabis grow was found,” he said.
“We don’t know the value of that at this time but we will be speaking to the male at a later date.
“If anyone else has information or concerns, I’d urge them to contact Humberside Police.”
Anyone with information should contact the force on the non-emergency 101 number.
