100 pounds of marijuana seized in Newark Valley

A Newark Valley man is in custody after he was found with more than 100 pounds of marijuana on his property, police said.

Richard B. Paugh Jr., 45, had a substantial marijuana-growing operation at his residence on Newark Valley-Maine Road, the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office said.

On Monday, the marijuana was discovered after sheriff’s deputies arrived on the property in an attempt to serve an arrest warrant for a person wanted in Broome County.

Investigators returned with a search warrant and determined Paugh’s 100 pounds of marijuana had an estimated $424,000 value, if sold, police said.

Paugh was charged with a felony count of first-degree criminal possession of marijuana. He was arraigned in Newark Valley Town Court and sent to the Tioga County jail without bail, to await further court action.
