New York police find 16 pounds of marijuana in NJ man's van, report says

Police in New York found 16 pounds of marijuana in a van being driven by Jamin G. Bennett, 36, of East Orange. 

An East Orange man was arrested after police in New York found 16 pounds of marijuana in his van, according to a report from The Journal News.


Police were acting on information when they stopped a box van being driven by Jamin G. Bennett, 36, on South Bedford Road in Bedford, N.Y., the report said.


Police told the news site that Bennett appeared nervous when officers asked him what he was carrying in the rear cargo area.


Officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana after Bennett opened the rear cargo area, according to the report.


Police found a duffel bag containing 16 pounds of marijuana in the rear, the report said.


Bennett was charged with criminal possession of marijuana. He posted bail and is due back in Bedford Town Court on Nov. 13, The Journal News reported.
