SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — An employee with the California Department of Corrections was arrested as part of an investigation into marijuana cultivation connected to a street gang, the Sacramento Police Department announced on Wednesday.
Eddie Lay, 32, was one of five people arrested when warrants were executed at six locations in Sacramento.
A tip from the police gang enforcement team revealed someone on the inside may have been involved with the criminal activity tied to a known street gang.
In all, 617 marijuana plants, 248 pounds of packaged and processed marijuana were seized, along with cash and firearms.
Lay currently could face cultivation of marijuana charges, though the investigation could reveal more charges.
Also arrested were Tommy Su, 29; Phu Su, 33; Michael Su, 29; and Vich Nguyen, 29.
